Hot-Shooting Eagles Soar Past Bison, 79-50

WINGATE — Mountain League front-runner Bald Eagle Area jumped out to a 14-2 lead en route to a 29-point first quarter and went on to defeat visiting Clearfield 79-50 in schoolboy basketball action Tuesday night.

The hot-shooting Eagles were led by 6-7 senior Dennis Fisher’s 20 points and 10 rebounds, but three others were in double figures for the high-octane offense that is shooting at a 50 percent clip and averaging 68 points through four games.

Bryan Greene and Ryan Dyke pumped in 13 points apiece and Brandon Gettig added a dozen in the undefeated Eagles’ third league triumph.

For coach Forrest Campman’s Bison, who slipped to 0-3 in the league and 1-4 overall, senior Trey Jordan was high with 17 points while junior Andy Brown chipped in with a season-high 10.

The Bison just weren’t able to slow down Fisher and Company at the outset.

“Fisher is as good a big guy as there is in the area,” Campman said. “He’s a big threat around the basket and we tried to pack in against him, but they hit four threes in a row.

“Now, we have to extend out, and the two Greene kids are very fast and found open seams.

“BEA is very good. They shot a high percentage the whole game.”

The Eagles, whose four top pointmakers all are shooting over 50 percent for the season, blistered the nets for 30 field goals in 59 attempts, including an impressive 9-for-17 from behind the arc.

Clearfield cut into its 47-26 halftime deficit with an 18-point third quarter but couldn’t maintain that momentum in the final eight minutes, when it was outscored 21-6.

Fisher embellished his double-double with four blocked shots and six assists.

Clearfield’s junior varsity was tagged with a 45-35 loss. Erik Sellers led the Red and Black with 11 points.

The Bison will return to Centre County Friday for a Mountain League game at Bellefonte.
