DUBOIS – PennDOT is alerting DuBois area drivers that paving will return through the day tomorrow on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive near the DuBois Mall.
Crews will be paving starting at 5 a.m. Friday. Crews will continue with that work through the day until paving is finished. All work is weather dependent.
Drivers will encounter an alternating traffic pattern on Shaffer Road that’s enforced by roadway flaggers. Paving on Beaver Drive will require a full closure near the intersection with Shaffer Road. Businesses on Beaver Drive will be accessible but drivers will not be able to travel through the intersection from Beaver Drive. Drivers will need to use Route 255 and Division Street to get to the DuBois Mall area. Drivers should expect delays as they make their way through the surrounding area.
The project goal is to ease congestion and make travel through the area smoother and more efficient. Overall work on the project includes roadway widening on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive, the addition of turn lanes for the Shaffer Road/Beaver Drive intersection, latex deck overlay for the Sandy Lick Creek Bridge on Shaffer Road, and signal upgrades.
PennDOT expects roadwork to be finished late this fall, with signal upgrades scheduled for spring of 2013. The contractor on this $1.2 million project is Francis J. Palo Construction Co. of Clarion.
PennDOT reminds drivers to proceed with caution through all work zones, be alert for flaggers in the roadway, and always buckle up.
