LHU Invites Public to Presentation on Common Myths about Bullying

LOCK HAVEN – Safe Haven, a student wellness group at Lock Haven University, will present “Bully s**t! Common Myths About Bullying, and What You Need to Know If You Want to Avoid Becoming an Aggressor Yourself.”

The presentation will feature Dr. Glen Retief, assistant professor of English and creative writing at Susquehanna University, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 in the Greenberg Auditorium, Health Professions Building on campus.

Reteif recently published The Jack Bank: A Memoir of a South African Childhood by St. Martin’s Press, documenting his experiences as a gay teen being bullied at school. He won a Lambda Literary Award for the book and it was selected as a Book of 2011 by the Africa Book Club. His essays and short stories have appeared in numerous publications and journals. He speaks English, Africaans and Spanish.
The interactive program is designed for students. It is designed to encourage students to take an active role in preventing bullying.

The public is also invited to this free presentation. The event is co-sponsored by Safe Haven; The President’s Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues; Gender Issues & Social Justice Committee; and the HOPE Center of Lock Haven University.
