Two Flown after I-80 Accident

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – Two people were flown to the Altoona Regional Hospital for medical treatment following a single-vehicle accident at 11 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 80 at mile marker 116 in Lawrence Township, the Clearfield-based state police reported.

The accident victims were identified as Margret S. McClellan, 84 and Vera G. Franzmann, 87, both of Akron, OH. Both sustained moderate injuries as a result of the accident. Both McClellan and Franzmann were wearing their seatbelts.

McClellan was traveling in the left-hand lane and apparently fell asleep. She lost control of her vehicle, which exited the roadway via the north berm and struck the guiderails. Then, her vehicle spun around before coming to a rest, facing west and blocking the left, eastbound lane.

State police were assisted by the Clearfield Emergency Medical Services and the Lawrence Township Fire Department.
