Two Injured after Motorcycle Strikes Bear

COVINGTON TOWNSHIP – Two people sustained minor injuries following a motorcycle accident at 12:46 p.m. Sunday along state Route 879 in Covington Township, the Clearfield-based state police reported.

Robert E. Reed, 68, of St. Marys was traveling eastbound when a bear crossed in front of his motorcycle. At that point, the motorcycle struck the bear and went down onto its side before sliding approximately 200 feet.

He and his passenger, Judith A. Reed, 66, were both wearing motorcycle helmets and sustained minor injuries. Both were transported to the Clearfield Hospital for medical treatment.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Karthaus Volunteer Fire Department and Karthaus Ambulance.
