The Philipsburg-based state police identified the accident victim as Kevin William Breen, 20, of Merrick, NY. His passenger, Ian Richardson, 22, of Hamburg, NY sustained moderate injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
According to the report, Breen was traveling southbound on I-99 when he vacated the left lane onto the gravel berm. He attempted to return to his lane of travel but lost control of his vehicle.
At that point, the Breen vehicle began to slide in a counterclockwise direction. It traveled into the median and began to overturn. The Breen vehicle continued to overturn numerous times, continuing across the median into the northbound lane.
The Breen vehicle came to a rest along the east berm, facing southeast. He and Richardson were transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center. Breen was pronounced dead as the result of injuries sustained in the accident. Richardson was receiving treatment for his injuries.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Port Matilda Fire and Ambulance as well as the Centre LifeLink and EMT from Mount Nittany Medical Center and the Centre County Coroner’s office. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Halfmoon Towing.
