Beam setting scheduled for Oct 12 and 13 on bridge over Route 53
KYLERTOWN – Drivers can expect delays this week as crews set beams Wednesday and Thursday on the westbound, Interstate 80 Bridge over Route 53 near Kylertown.
Crews will be working to set beams for the new bridge and rolling roadblocks will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Pennsylvania State Police will be on site to assist with traffic control and flow. The work zone is between mile-markers 133 and 134.
Westbound I-80 traffic continues to be restricted to the right (travel lane) across this bridge and a 10-foot width restriction remains in effect.
Drivers will also be able to find updated roadway information on roadside message boards and through the Highway Advisory Radio System at 1640 on the am dial.
Beam setting will affect traffic on Route 53 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Beam setting will continue on Friday but will not impact I-80 traffic. Traffic impacts on Route 53 on Friday may be longer than on the two previous days.
Intermittent lane closures will occur on Route 53 and flaggers will be in place to enforce an alternating traffic pattern from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. is the contractor on this $10 million project.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, use caution in construction zones and always buckle up. PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
