Bisons Break into Win Column Against Penns Valley 13-6

SPRING MILLS – The Clearfield Area High School baseball team got on the winning track after two losses by parlaying 11 hits with 12 walks into a 13-6 victory over Penns Valley Thursday afternoon.

Andrew Redden led the Bisons in the Mountain League crossover game, rapping three hits, one a double, and driving in three runs.

Jarrett Fulmer and Derek Danver each had a double and two RBIs, while Shane Harper singled and doubled and Tyler Jacobson added a pair of RBIs.

Jacobson had an RBI-groundout in the first inning, and six walks by loser Sam Snyder gave Clearfield three runs in the second.

The Bisons then made it easy for senior pitcher Trevor Flanagan with a seven-run third frame that included a two-run double by Fulmer and run-scoring hits by Redden and Harper. Danver had a sacrifice fly, Kurtis Krise walked with the bases loaded for an RBI and Christian Lezzer had an RBI-groundout.

Flanagan went the distance despite surrendering 12 hits, seven of them by batterymates Snyder and Nigel Grandy.

He struck out 10 and walked only one.

Snyder was the big gun for Penns Valley (0-2), which has lost 17 games in a row.

He cracked four hits, producing the Rams’ first four runs with a two-run single in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fifth.

Grandy singled three times.

Back-to-back doubles by Danver and Redden and a single by Jacobson produced Clearfield’s final two runs in the seventh.

Because the Penns Valley varsity diamond was unplayable, the game was shifted to the junior varsity field, so the JV game was cancelled.

Clearfield will travel back down I-80 again Friday for an ML-Allegheny Division game against Central Mountain at Mill Hall.
