Mary Ann Dufton, 86 of Clearfield, passed away Nov. 9, 2010 at the Knickerbocker Villa in Clearfield, PA.
Born on Jan. 26, 1924 in Clearfield, PA, she was the daughter of Robert Bruce and Alexandrina (Logie) Paterson.
She was a graduate of Clearfield High School, class of 1942.
During the World War II years, she and her sister, Flora worked at the Westinghouse factory in Pittsburgh, PA for the war effort. While there, Mary graduated from The John Robert Powers Modeling School. She and Flora took professional voice lessons at the Lewando Music Studio. They were well known for their voices and performed live duets on DuBois and Pittsburgh radio stations for the U.S.O.
Mary later went to Philadelphia and worked for Strawbridge and Clothier, modeling and selling clothing. She later returned to Clearfield to assist her family operating the Paterson Firebrick Company, following their father’s untimely death.
On March 17, 1951, she married John K. “Jack” Dufton, Jr. and became a homemaker and a mother of two.
She was also a gifted artist and was interested in interior decorating and music. She sang in church choirs for many years.
She is survived by her husband, John K. “Jack” Dufton; a son, Alexander M. Dufton of Clearfield; a daughter, Cathrina Dufton Zeiler and her husband Mark of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a grandson, Owen Matthew Zeiler and a sister, Flora M. Paterson Weyandt and her husband William of Pinole, California.
Mrs. Dufton is preceded in death by her parents and her brother William L. Paterson.
Friends will be received on Nov. 12 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Clearfield.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Robert Mellgard and Mr. Richard Barkley officiating.
