Activities Set for Sept. 3 – 6 at Sinnemahoning State Park

The following programs will be offered at Sinnemahoning State Park for Friday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 6.

Friday, Sept. 3

6 p.m. – Evening Kayak Paddle

Join the park naturalist on an evening kayak paddle around the margins of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir and observe some of the park’s nocturnal residents as they begin their nightly rounds. This program is registration-only and spaces are limited.

Cost is $8 per person, or $20 per family group. Kayaks, PFD’s and paddles are provided. Meet at the Boat Launch Area. Please call the park office at 814-647-8401 to reserve your space.

Saturday, Sept. 4

2:30 p.m. – Creature Craft

Bring the kids and join the park naturalist at the Campground Amphitheater for a special craft program, featuring one of Pennsylvania’s wildlife species.

4 p.m. – Pennsylvania Black Bear Resarch Program

Join WCO Wayne Hunt at the Campground Amphitheater for a program on the black bear research being conducted by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

If the bears cooperate, you’ll have the opportunity to watch as a live black bear is anesthetized and processed for this important research.

8 p.m. – Wild Pennsylvania – Black Bears

Meet at the Campground Amphitheater for a video presentation on the history and status of Pennsylvania’s resident black bears.

Sunday, Sept. 5

Interpretive Pontoon Boat Tours

Join the park naturalist for a relaxing and informative 45-minute tour of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir. This program focuses on the plants and wildlife of lake and wetland habitats. The pontoon boat has 18 available seats.

Cost is $2 per person, but children who are 5 years and under will ride for free. Advance reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the park office at 814-647-8401. You may also sign up until noon at the park office or at the Eagle Watch Station near boat launch area up until the time of departure.

Monday, Labor Day, Sept. 6

9 a.m. – Birds n’ Brunch Specialty Pontoon Boat Tour

Join the park naturalist at Sinnemahoning State Park for a morning bird-watching pontoon boat excursion. Enjoy a light brunch on the boat, complete with tablecloths and music, as you cruise along the shores and wetland areas of the George B. Stevenson Dam.

Search the shoreline for herons, mergansers, kingfisher and other birds that frequent the area. The excursion will conclude with information about the park’s resident bald eagles, and hopefully, a glimpse of these magnificent birds.

Bring your camera! Binoculars and field guides will be provided. Cost is $20 per person, which includes a delicious brunch. For more information and other dates, please call Sinnemahoning State Park at (814) 647-8401. Pre-registration by Sept. 1 is required. Tours are limited to 10 people.
