CLEARFIELD – RSVP of Clearfield County volunteers can be found throughout the county providing valuable service to approximately 75 non-profit organizations and health care facilities. The life experiences and skills of RSVP volunteers enrich the programs in which they serve.  These volunteers generously give of their time to better their communities.
If you are interested in Clearfield County’s history, RSVP has the volunteer opportunity for you! In Clearfield County, many RSVP volunteers can be found donating their time at one of three area historical museums.
The Clearfield County Historical Society has been an RSVP station for over 20 years. A governing board, made up of volunteers, guide the Historical Society.  Various members of the governing board staff the museum when it is open, every Thursday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting the beginning of May until the end of October.
RSVP volunteers assist the governing board members at the museum by serving as hosts/hostesses. These volunteers are an important part of the success of the museum. They are stationed at the entrance hall and are the first to welcome visitors. In addition to greeting visitors, RSVP volunteers answer questions and direct visitors to various displays throughout the museum. If a visitor wishes to join the Historical Society, present a gift, purchase a book, or request help with genealogy research, the volunteer then directs the visitor to one of the board members who are on duty that day.   Â
The RSVP volunteers who serve at the museum are invited to be special guests at the Clearfield County Historical Society’s Annual Dinner meeting each October. This is one way the board thanks them for all of the great work they do.
RSVP volunteers from the DuBois area are also interested in preserving the history of their community. At the DuBois Area Historical Society’s museum, you can see RSVP volunteers serving as hosts/hostesses and also in the genealogy department.
The DuBois Area Historical Society Museum is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The DuBois museum is always looking for volunteers to serve as guides for their regular hours and for help in the genealogy department, recording deaths, anniversaries, etc. They can always use help for their annual Lantern Walk.
In the Coalport area, the Coalport Coal Museum and Glendale Library are looking for volunteers to assist in both areas. They are looking for volunteers to serve on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a. m. until 4:00 p.m., Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The museum and the library are both housed in the Coalport community building. Volunteer duties include serving as hosts/hostesses for the museum and signing out books for library patrons.Â
Please contact the RSVP office if you are interested in serving as an RSVP volunteer at one of these museums. Regular and substitute positions are available.   Â
MARCH VOLUNTEER CORNER:
SPECIAL PROJECTS: Do you want to volunteer but are interested in sporadic or seasonal positions? RSVP has special projects you can assist with that are seasonal but make a great impact on your community. Some examples are sewing quilts for children who are in traumatic situations, prepare special mailings for organizations, or singing and visiting in a local nursing/personal care home. If you have a specific organization or nursing/personal care home that you care about and would like to do special projects for them, please give us a call.
LITERACY VOLUNTEERS: Strong literacy skills are important for people of all ages. Opportunities for adults to assist other adults with increasing their literacy skills are available throughout the county. Scheduling is flexible and all materials and training are provided.
ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERS: Do you enjoy the outdoors? Would you like to make a positive impact on the environment? Come join the Clearfield County Senior Environmental Corps. This group has positions for volunteers 55 and older to share their expertise, knowledge and skills. Volunteers may monitor the water quality of local streams, enter data into a database, or talk with children about the importance of a healthy environment and what they can do to help keep the environment safe for the future. Make a difference for future generations!
CLERICAL VOLUNTEERS: Many non-profit organizations could use extra assistance with office duties periodically. Duties may include answering phones, assisting with filing, bulk mailings, etc. Volunteers also could help with special events and fundraisers. Scheduling is flexible, so why not consider being on a list to do special events?Â
