CLEARFIELD – Tickets are on sale now for the first production of The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre season. The Drama ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ will be presented at the CAST Building, 112 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, March 18, 19, 20; 25, 26, 27 with curtain at 7:00 p.m.
‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ tells the story of Anne Frank and her family who moved from Germany to Amsterdam in 1933, the same year as the Nazis gained power in Germany. By the beginning of 1940 they were trapped in Amsterdam due to the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased, the family went into hiding in the hidden rooms above her father’s office building.
The play, Directed by Susan Loffredi, is based on the actual diary kept by Anne Frank, and captures the hopes, the fears, the laughter and the grief of the two years spent in hiding.
“Actors and Directors often have a fondness for the characters in a play they are working on, but in many ways these characters have struck a stronger than usual chord because ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ is based on the true story of one of the most devastating and memorable events in history and because the story is seen through the eyes of a real thirteen year old girl.”, said Loffredi. “During rehearsals we will often get into discussions about certain events that happened to the people in the annex and it brings us all to the realization that the events we are portraying actually happened to real people, and because of the writings of young Anne the world was made aware of them.”
“This is a show that not only individuals or families should see but is a show that is important viewing for church groups, history and English classes, and scout groups. It has a message that is too important to miss.” continued Loffredi, As time has taught us, “Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.””
Tickets for the production are $8.50 each and may be reserved by calling the CAST office at 765-4474.
