America is a special place, where someone you may not know will give you his or her blood, save you from drowning or provide you with shelter. In 1943, President Roosevelt recognized the American Red Cross as a true reflection of that humanitarian, volunteer spirit and proclaimed March as Red Cross Month. This tradition has been honored by every President since. The Clearfield-Jefferson Chapter of the American Red Cross dedicates this month to thanking the countless people who make the lifesaving work of the Red Cross possible in Clearfield and Jefferson Counties.
Although hurricanes and wildfires make the headlines, the day-to-day work of the Red Cross is centered on communities like ours. Every year, many of your neighbors volunteer countless hours for the Red Cross.
Through the American Red Cross, families receive food, clothing, shelter and comfort when fires and other emergencies strike. We provide life-saving blood products, emergency response training and emergency communications and financial assistance for members of the Armed Forces. We thank our many partners for helping us help families with emergencies. We can take great pride in what we have done together.
Much has changed since that first Red Cross month in 1943. But one thing remains the same. The residents of Clearfield and Jefferson counties are helping their neighbors, and your support of our Red Cross is a true reflection of that spirit.
The mission of the American Red Cross would be impossible to achieve without the generous help of financial donors, blood doors and volunteers who provide our vital programs and services. Thank you to all who are a part of the “teamwork” of our chapter!
The Red Cross is not a government agency. Our support comes from the United Way and United Fund allocations, special event fundraisers and donations to the chapter.
