Lady Tide Handed 56-28 AML South Loss by Lady Cardinals

DUBOIS – Cold-shooting Curwensville was limited to single-digit scoring in every quarter and suffered a 56-28 loss to DuBois Central Catholic in Allegheny Mountain League South Division scholastic girls basketball action Wednesday night.

Both teams were coming off major wins the previous night, the Lady Tide having snapped a 28-game losing streak at the expense of Johnsonburg and the Lady Cardinals having upset once-beaten Kane.

Curwensville was unable to build on its success, falling behind 15-6 after eight minutes and 28-12 at the half.

Point guard Tess Bloom and Savannah Strickland produced the bulk of the Lady Tide points with 10 apiece.

Strickland became the first Curwensville player other than Bloom to hit double figures this season.

Bloom has netted at least 13 points in every game except one.

Miller Hopkins pumped in 15 points, just over her 14.5 average, and Lauresa Gulvas chipped in with 11 as DCC (4-8) moved into first place in the AML South at 3-1.

They were a combined 10-for-11 at the foul line, and the Lady Cardinals finished 20-for-27 from the charity stripe.

Curwensville, 1-7 with three AML South losses, will return to Moshannon Valley League play Monday with a home game against Glendale.

DCC also won the junior varsity game, 41-10.
