Clearfield LL 11-12 All-stars Overpower Four-Leaf Clover 10-0 to Join Philipsburg in District 5 Northern Tier Finals

BIGLER – Wyatt Westen pitched a two-hitter and combined with Jon Janocko and C.J. Gathagan for seven hits and nine runs batted in as the Clearfield Little League 11-12 All-Stars bounced back from Friday\’s 9-1 loss to Philipsburg-Osceola with a 10-0 win over host Four-Leaf Clover Sunday evening at the Bigler Little League Field.

Westen struck out seven, walked four and hit one in his complete-game shutout that earned Clearfield (2-1) a rematch with Philipsburg Tuesday in the District 5 Northern Tier finals.

Manager Dave Campolong\’s team (2-1) must knock off Philipsburg-Osceola (2-0) at Homer Maney Memorial Field in Chester Hill to force a deciding game for the tier title.

Janocko slugged two home runs, Gathagan jump-started the Clearfield attack with a three-run home run in the second inning and also singled twice and Westen belted a pair of doubles to power Clearfield\’s 10-hit attack against three Four-Leaf Clover pitchers. They had three RBIs apiece.

After going down in order against Cole Kephart in the first frame, the visitors got rolling in the second when Gathagan homered to center field after a walk to Janocko and a bunt single by Jared Williams.

Two outs later, an error and Josh Sorbera\’s single set the table for Westen, and he made it 5-0 with a double.

Janocko connected for a two-run homer in the fourth and a solo shot in the sixth.

Sorbera plated Gathagan with his second hit in the third and then walked and scored on Westen\’s second two-bagger in the fifth.

Kephart and Logan Puit had the only hits off of Westen.

On Friday at Clearfield\’s McNamee Field, Philipsburg-Osceola bunched all of its eight hits into two innings, breaking open a 3-1 game with six runs in the sixth.

The visitors spoiled an otherwise strong effort by Janocko with three runs in the third.

Tanner Lamb singled home the first run, Caleb Pepperday picked up an RBI with a forceout and Tim Eason walked with the bases loaded for the third marker.

The two hits and three walks Janocko surrendered in five innings all came in that frame. He departed on the short end of a 3-1 score because of the Little League Pitch-Count Rule.

Two errors opened the door for P-O in the sixth, and the winners capitalized against two Clearfield relief pitchers with a two-run double by Lowman Pryde, and RBI-singles by Tanner Wilson, Lamb and Eason and an RBI-double by Pepperday.

Eason turned in a three-hit route-going performance on the mound.

He posted 10 strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

He did hit Westen, who stole second and scored on Janocko\’s single in the third inning.

Westen and Spencer Herrington also singled for Clearfield.
