CLEARFIELD – Benefiting from 15 walks, Tri-County defeated the Clearfield Little League 9-10 All-Stars 15-2 in a District 5 Northern Tier Tournament semifinal game under the Kurtz Field lights Friday.
The visitors, who had only two hits, scored seven runs in the third inning and six in the fourth for the Mercy Rule win.
Brock Bowman had two of Clearfield\’s four hits.
Matt Collins and Jake Sorbera also singled.
Mason Mellott was the winning pitcher, striking out six and walking five before being relieved by Lucas Gray in the fourth.
Collins, the first of three Clearfield hurlers, took the loss.
Clearfield (1-1) will host Curwensville (0-1) in an elimination bracket quarterfinal at Kurtz Field Monday at 6 p.m. The winner will be at home against Milesburg or Four-Leaf Clover Wednesday.
