CLEARFIELD – There will be a meeting for any Democrat from Clearfield or surrounding areas interested in volunteering for the upcoming primary and general elections on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the IBEW Local #5 Training Center located at 1400 Leonard Street in Clearfield (behind the old Clear Haven County Home).
According to Clearfield County Democratic Chairman, John Sughrue, “This year’s Democratic primary race has brought out unprecedented voter registration in Pennsylvania. For the first time in state history we have topped four million registered Democrats. At the county level we are hoping to use this to re-energize our Clearfield County Democratic Committees and welcome first time participants to the process.”
Sughrue states, “Getting involved at the local level is the best way for citizens to have a dramatic impact on the decisions made everyday by their elected government. We have a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge in Clearfield County with organizations like the Moshannon Valley Democratic Club and the Dubois Democratic Club. We would like to continue to support these groups and give interested citizens from the central part of Clearfield County an opportunity to have a greater voice in politics at the local, state, and federal level. Opportunities for volunteers range from precinct leaders to those willing to make get out the vote calls with the goal of increasing voter turn out.”
Both experienced party volunteers and those wishing to experience the process for the first time are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served. Representatives from both the Democratic Presidential campaigns of Senators Obama and Clinton have been invited to attend.
