SALISBURY, N.C. – Lock Haven\’s women\’s softball squad (1-1, 0-0 PSAC West) went 1-1 on the day as they kicked off their season in the Catawba Tournament in North Carolina.
LHU started off the day with a solid 9-1 victory over Glenville State before falling in the nightcap to Georgia College and State University 2-0.
LHU\’s victory over Glenville State in the first contest of the season saw plenty of offense for the Lady Eagles as Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) went two for three in her first career game as she knocked in a three RBI double for The Haven.
Fellow freshman Brittany Pataky (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) also had an RBI double, while junior Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) was 2-3 with a triple.
Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter) picked up the victory as she pitched a solid four innings, while scattering two hits.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) came into the game in the fifth to relieve Erb and pitched a strong inning of work as she recorded two strikeouts and also walked a batter.
LHU\’s defense was stellar in the first contest as they had no errors during the five inning affair.
Lock Haven then took on Georgia College and State University in the nightcap and fell by a score of 2-0.
Once again Erb pitched for the Lady Eagles as she threw a solid six innings, giving up four hits and striking out ten.
Both runs for GCSU were unearned.
Leading the LHU attack in the second half of the doubleheader was Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) who had a double for the Lady Eagles and went 1-3, while Pataky recorded a single and went 1-2 on the evening.
LHU is back in action Saturday as they play Lincoln-Memorial and Lenoir Rhyne at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
