LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Following up on their selection as the second best team in the nation, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has chosen Lock Haven University\’s women\’s softball squad as their preseason favorite to win the Western division of the conference.
LHU was the national runners-up last season following a defeat at the hands of Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville in the national title game and for their accomplishments they were given the nod as the Western division\’s best squad.
Edinboro, the only team to defeat LHU in conference play over the past two seasons was selected in the number two spot to begin the season.
Rounding out the West are IUP, California, Slippery Rock and Clarion.
The top selection on the other side of the conference is Kutztown, a team that gave The Haven fits in last year\’s PSAC championship tilt as a Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter) home run over the left field fence in the 15th inning propelled LHU to a second game with Kutztown where they eventually brought home their second PSAC title in a row.
Rounding out the Eastern division are local rival Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg, Millersville, Mansfield and West Chester.
The first pitch of the 2008 campaign will take place at 1 p.m. on Leap Day, February 29, 2008 as LHU plays Glenville State as both teams take part in the Catawba Tournament in Salisbury, N.C.
