Pittsburgh Man Killed by Train in Lawrence Township
CLEARFIELD – A Pittsburgh man lost his life after being struck by a train near the Checkerboard Bridge near state Route 879 Wednesday evening.
The Lawrence Township Police Department reported that Jeffrey Scherer died as a result of being struck by a train.

Body Found in Moshannon Creek Identified, Cause of Death Determined
PHILIPSBURG – The identity of the body found in Moshannon Creek on Jan. 30 has been identified as 43-year-old William Anstett of Philipsburg.
State police in Clearfield also reported that the cause of death was determined to be hypothermia.
Police originally reported on Jan. 30 that a body had been discovered in Moshannon Creek around 9:30 a.m. near Sheetz. Police stated then that foul play was not suspected in Anstett’s death.

County Emergency Response Team gets New Tactical Equipment
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Emergency Response Team members were issued new equipment on Wednesday.
The equipment purchase was made possible by the Department of Homeland Security funding of approx $42,000 through the Northwest Central PA Emergency Response Group.
The tactical equipment will be used to protect officers in the field and included tactical vests, ballistic plates and helmets. The ERT serves as an emergency response unit within Clearfield County during high-risk warrant services and other potentially violent situations.

County Commissioners Look to Implement DOC Agreement
CLEARFIELD – The County Commissioners will look to implement the Department of Corrections Reimbursement Memorandum Of Understanding.
County Solicitor Kim Kesner said Clearfield County joined other counties in suing the Department of Corrections for reimbursement of court costs.
“For the counties who have signed the memorandum, the reimbursement has already begun,” said Kesner

Ethanol Project Takes Another Step Forward
CLEARFIELD – A sign was installed Monday at the Clearfield County Technology Park, future home to the Bionol Clearfield LLC ethanol project.
The sign is another step forward in the project. In mid-January, Penn Central Machine moved a 4,000 square foot metal building to a new location as part of that company’s relocation process.

Commissioners Approve Agreement Needed for Bionol to Move Forward
CLEARFIELD – GantDaily reported earlier Tuesday on a sign that was raised at the Clearfield County Technology Park for the Bionol Clearfield LLC ethanol plant.
Before Noon the Clearfield County Commissioners approved signatures at their work session for a memorandum of understanding Bionol needs for the closing on property.
The memorandum of understanding is between Bionol, Clearfield County, the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of Budget.

CLEARFIELD – The demolition of the former Penn Central Machine in the Clearfield County Technology Park began on Thursday in Bionol Clearfield LLC’s efforts to build Clearfield County’s first ethanol plant.
Corinne Young, director of public and government affairs for BioEnergy, stated that financing closed on Wednesday.

Clearfield County Commissioners, Colonial Courtyard Continue Discussions on Expansion
CLEARFIELD – More discussions involving the proposed Colonial Courtyard expansion were held on Tuesday between the Clearfield County Commissioners and Ken Szala of the engineering firm Innovative Consulting Group Inc. for Colonial Courtyard.
Colonial Courtyard is looking to add space for another 10 to 12 residents.

Name of Man in Standoff with LT Police Released
CLEARFIELD – The name of the man involved in an armed confrontation Tuesday with members of the Lawrence Township Police Department has been released.
Steven Korb is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and simple assault.

Houtzdale Woman’s Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Clearfield Borough
CLEARFIELD – A Houtzdale woman’s vehicle that was reported missing in late January was located on Wednesday.
According to Clearfield based state police the 1994 white Ford Escort was located in the St. Charles parking lot in Clearfield Borough. The vehicle will be processed by a Records and Identification Unit from Punxsutawney.
