Cumberland County Nurse Arrested for Allegedly Unlawfully Obtaining Pre scri ption Drugs

HARRISBURG – A Cumberland County nurse was arrested today on charges of illegally possessing pre scri ption narcotics for her own use.

Attorney General Tom Corbett identified the defendant as Jennifer Blair, 28, Mercersburg, Franklin County. Blair was a nurse at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center, 361 Alexander Spring Road, Carlisle.

According to the charges, between March 2007 and May 2007, Blair obtained quantities of Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) by withdrawing amounts of the drug in unusual frequencies from automated dispensing machines in the Hospital’s Emergency Room.

Corbett said that Hydromorphone is the generic form of Dilaudid, which is a Schedule II controlled substance, and a derivative of the pain killer morphine.

The criminal complaint states that Blair allegedly used her and another nurse’s access code to access the Dilaudid machines. At times, the other nurse was not present when her access code was used for the drug.

Agents said that over the course of three months, Blair allegedly obtained Dilaudid at least 20 times; receiving a 3-4 mg dose each time she accessed the machine.

Corbett said that Blair is charged with one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, deception or subterfuge. She was preliminarily arraigned before Mount Holly magisterial District Judge Susan Day and released on her own recognizance.

Blair will be prosecuted by Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed’s office.
