DUBOIS – The DuBois Area School District learned that they lost a member of its teaching staff Wednesday.
According to a press release from the DASD, the district was notified by the state police that DuBois Area High School math teacher Ben Friedl died as a result of an automobile accident outside of St. Marys Wednesday morning.
State police reported that the accident happened while Freidl was traveling along state Route 255. A vehicle driven by Thomas Resch of Kersey was traveling north. Friedl’s vehicle spun and crossed into the northbound lane of traffic and into Resch’s path. Friedl struck Resch, whose vehicle then spun 180 degrees before coming to rest on the east berm, 60 feet from the point of impact. Friedl’s vehicle spun 90 degrees before coming to rest 65 feet from the point of impact.
Friedl died as a result of the accident, according to police, and Resch suffered major injuries. Police were assisted at the scene by the Fox Township Fire Department and ambulance service, St. Marys ambulance service and PennDOT.
Teachers, students and staff have been notified of the loss. Crisis counselors are available at the high school if needed. The DuBois Area School District expressed deepest sympathy to the Friedl family.
