Purchase Line– Even without their top scorer available to play, Curwensville was able to keep stride for stride with a tough Penns Manor team before eventually falling 58-48. David Kalgren, Curwensville’s leading scorer at 16.2 points per game, was forced to miss the game against Penns Manor in the first round of the Purchase Line Lion’s Club Holiday Tournament due to sickness.
In Kalgren’s absence Curwensville was able to get solid games from Derek Dixon and Sam Gardner, who were able to score 14 and 11 points respectively. Those scorers weren’t enough to hold off the Comets, who were able to put three players in double digits and have eight different players score two or more points.
The game started off with a fast pace with both teams exchanging baskets up and down the court. By the end of the first quarter the score stood at 18-14 Penns Manor. There was really no separation of points during the game except for with 30 seconds to go in the half whenever Penns Manor was able to get back to back steals for layups to go up 29-20 at the half.
The third quarter was much of the same story for the game as both teams continued to play solid defense and exchange points. The Golden Tide were able to narrow the gap to 6 points with back to back jumpers by Jed Greslick to end the third period. In the end the Comets just proved to be too much as they pulled away late with free throws to come out on top with a 58-48 win.
The Golden Tide will be in action Thursday night as they take on the Purchase Line Red Dragons in the consolation game of the Purchase Line Lion’s Club Holiday Tournament.
