Accident Reported in Cooper Township

COOPER TOWNSHIP – Two motorists were taken for treatment after a two-vehicle accident on state Route 1011 early Wednesday morning.

Clearfield-based state police reported that a 22-year-old Altoona man was traveling north on SR 1011/Rolling Stone Road. A vehicle driven by Ted Leonard of Kylertown was traveling south. The Altoona man passed over the yellow lines and into the southbound lane of travel in an attempt to pass another vehicle.

As the Altoona man crossed into the southbound lane, he struck Leonard head-on. Upon impact the Altoona man’s vehicle began to overturn onto its roof, landing in the southbound lane near the west berm. The vehicle slid onto and through the west berm and struck an embankment then turned back onto its wheels.

The vehicle came to rest about 110 feet from the initial point of impact according to police.

Leonard’s vehicle spun counterclockwise through the southbound lane and into the northbound lane.

The Altoona man was airlifted to Altoona Regional Trauma Center for treatment of injuries of an unknown severity. Leonard was taken by Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services to Clearfield Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Altoona man is being cited for the accident.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Moshannon Valley EMS, Winburne Fire Department, Grassflat Fire Department, Morris Township Fire Department and PennDOT.
