DUBOIS – Dubois City Council voted to accept the recommendation of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regarding the fish habitats on Tuesday night.
The recommendations had been presented to council in a meeting earlier in November outlining various methods and means to alter a stretch of water to be more trout-friendly. Direct benefits would be to create a recreational activity for the town and add some publicity about the project to bring people to DuBois were among a list.
A secondary aspect of creating these artificial trout habitats was to help slow down and sometimes stop erosion of the banks if managed right.
“It all goes into one [solution]. The erosion problem [and the trout], at virtually no cost to us,” said mayor John Suplizio.
The Fish and Boat Commission representative stated in the previous meeting that they would help the area Trout Unlimited chapter, who requested this originally, in the project. This includes getting grants and funding. As a result there should be little cost to the city for this.
