CLEARFIELD – The recent elections mean change for local school boards. Clearfield Area School District Superintendent Denise Keltz thanked outgoing board members Joseph Bower, Sandy Sloppy, Ralph Lingle and Jeff Carns at Monday night’s meeting of the Clearfield Area School Board of Directors.
Keltz highlighted the service of Bower and Sloppy. Noting that these members in particular have worked through unusual difficulties for a school board, going above and beyond the regular duties of board members, Keltz said, “ We did what it took. We made really hard decisions together. ”
Incoming board members David Glass, Susan Mikesell and Philip Carr will join returning members Tim Morgan and Larry Putt for new 4 year terms.
As the 2 year terms expire in the new year the school board will have 2 vacancies.
Also recognized at Monday night’s meeting were Anne Herzing and Mark Dymond, elementary principals. All of Clearfield School District’s elementary schools have met the Annual Yearly Progress requirements. The principals were presented with a recognition plaque. Bruce Nicolls, director of curriculum/instruction and coordinator of federal programs, noted that these plaques come with corresponding federal monies.
Other grant monies received through a collaborative grant with Cen-Clear Child Services will offer after school tutoring to students in the high school through the “SOAR” project.
The SOAR project is a follow through program of “Project Success” which provided after school and summer services to Middle School age children.
The board will meet again on Dec. 18. This will be a combined committee and board meeting due to the holiday.
