CURWENSVILLE – The Mountain Laurel Kennel Club’s annual pie sale, set for Nov. 10 at Goodman’s Foodliner in Curwensville, aims to raise $1,000 to help Clearfield County’s emergency responders save non-human lives by providing them with animal oxygen masks.
Each of the county’s emergency medical and quick response services, a total of 15, will receive a set of three reusable masks, according to pie sale chairman Val Swales.
Last year, proceeds from the event and a grant from the former CSB Bank purchased a protective vest for Curwensville Police K9 Officer Zeus.
“It was amazing to see the outpouring of support for our project. People came from all over the county and some didn’t even want pies. We love that we can identify a need in the animal world and, together with our generous community, fill it,” Mrs. Swales said.
“We often hear about animals rescued from fires and we’re lucky to live in a county where emergency responders are so willing to save our pets. The club just wants them to have a better chance at survival with equipment designed for the canine, feline or whatever face,” she continued.
An assortment of pies will go on sale at 9 a.m. for $ 7. If the $1,000 goal is not met that day, donations will be accepted until Nov. 19. Please send checks, payable to MLKC, to Sandy Malinich, PO Box 155, Hyde, 16843.
