Clearfield Man Flees Police, Charged with Violation PFA, More Charges Pending

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man was arrested following an attempt to flee Clearfield Borough police after an alleged assault.

Police were called to the 100 block of Second Street to investigate an assault. A Clearfield Borough officer noticed Shawn A. Johnson, 25 of Clearfield hiding in a nearby parking lot. Police state that Johnson was wanted on a warrant for violation a protection from abuse order and one through the domestic relations office.

When an officer attempted to approach Johnson, police stated that he took off on foot. Johnson reportedly ran west to the bank of the Susquehanna River and hid in some weeds. A Clearfield Borough officer encountered Johnson, and a struggle occurred between the two. John was subsequently arrested. Both the officer and Johnson were treated at Clearfield Hospital for minor injuries and released.

Johnson was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland on the PFA violation and placed in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Additional charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest may be filed against Johnson, according to police.

The Clearfield Borough Police Department was assisted by the Lawrence Township Police Department and the Clearfield-based state police.
