Accident Causes Power Outage Near Bigler

BIGLER – An early morning vehicle accident involving a car and a tractor trailer interrupted electric service for 38 Penelec customers Thursday along U.S. Route 322 near Bigler.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, crews were called out and arrived at the scene at approximately 6:10 a.m. They de-energized the circuit to allow emergency personnel to complete their work. Verizon replaced the broken utility pole and Penelec crews then rebuilt electrical facilities on the pole. Power was restored to all customers just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

The power outage also interrupted service to Pennsylvania American Water’s Salem booster pump and affected customers were advised to boil water.

Penelec reminds customers to treat all downed wires as energized and dangerous. Do not approach or try to move downed wires. Please call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-478-8465) to report downed wires and power outages.
