CLEARFIELD – Ryan Louis Rittmeyer of Clearfield was sentenced to state prison for the assault of a Clearfield man outside of the Clearfield post office.
Rittmeyer was sentenced to 21 months to five years at a state correctional institution, according to Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. Rittmeyer’s defense asked for a boot camp sentence, but Senior Judge John K. Reilly Jr. said no.
Rittmeyer was found guilty in a jury trial in July of two counts of robbery, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.Rittmeyer and a then-juvenile co-defendant assault a 55-year-old Clearfield man on Nov. 27 in an effort to get his backpack. The man was pummeled by Rittmeyer and the accomplice. The accomplice testified at the trial that they wanted the backpack because they believed the man left with the nightly earnings of the business he worked at.
