CLEARFIELD – A 19-year-old woman caught attempting to smuggle drugs to her boyfriend in jail pleaded guilty to contraband and possession of a small amount of marijuana Monday.
Patricia Louise Waite of Fallentimber was sentenced to six months in Clearfield County Jail. She was ordered to submit to DNA testing and is to refrain from alcohol and controlled substances.
Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman commented that it was recommended she serve one to two years in a state correctional institution.
“She’s a kid,” said Ammerman. “I can’t send her to Muncy. They’d eat her alive.”
On July 12, 2006, Waite brought a sweatshirt to the Clearfield County Jail. Guards noticed that she appeared nervous, and once she handed the sweatshirt over, she promptly left the jail.
Guards examined the sweatshirt, felt bulges in the wrists and wrist bands, and x-rayed it. During the examination guards discovered pills of narcotic medication.
Clearfield Borough Police Chief Jeff Rhone and Sheriff’s Deputy Rob Snyder searched for Waite. When they found her on July 27, she initially denied the allegations. She eventually admitted to it, according to court documents. She told police that while talking to her boyfriend he told he was in pain and wanted the pills. She allegedly admitted to opening the seams of the sweatshirt and placing the pills in the garment.
