Reliant-Shawville Employees to Take Part in Yard Sale to Brighten Kids’ Christmas

SHAWVILLE – The employees of Reliant Energy, Shawville Station, have been busy cleaning out their attics, garages, etc. in preparation for their participation in the 100-Mile Yard Sale on Friday and Saturday.

The sale will be set up under a large tent in the front parking lot at the entrance to the plant. The yard sale starts at state Route 879 in Shawville where the plant is located.

The proceeds of the sale will go to plant employees’ on-going efforts to raise money for the program they call “Kids at Christmas”.

Starting last year, an activities and communication team was formed and fundraising efforts started with monthly box lunches and 50/50 sales. In December the committee obtained names of needy children through local organizations and purchased Christmas gifts like toys, games, clothing, winter coats and boots.

This was such a successful endeavor the team has continued the box lunches and 50/50 sales this year but decided to add another fundraising effort by participating in the yard sale. Employees have been bringing in items for several months.

The employees report that they are excited to see how much money they can raise with hopes of being able to provide for more local children at Christmas.
