Milesburg — Down big and early in an elimination game is a spot that no team wants to be. Unfortunately that is exactly where the Four Leaf 11-12 All-stars were at Milesburg.
Down 6-0 after one inning and down 6-1 after three innings, things looked rather bleak for the visitors. In the top of the 4th, Four Leaf had a glimmer of hope as they scrapped for 3 runs to make it 6-4.
Then came 5th, where there were 2 big highlights: Dale Confer ripped an RBI double and later scored to tie the game at 6. Also, the Four Leaf manager was ejected for letting the umpire know, in 2 words, what he thought of his umpiring ability.
Milesburg gamefully answered in the bottom of the 5th take a one run lead to the final inning, 7-6.
After an out in the 6th, Four Leaf got the tying run on base – only to see him get thrown out at 3rd after trying to take an extra base. 2 out, none on. The game appeared over as Dalton Wisor grounded to short, but Milesburg couldn\’t make the play to end the game. Enter Dale Confer who had the run-scoring double in the previuos inning. This time – 2 run homer! Four Leaf -8, Milesbug – 7. Next batter – Chad Speigle, homerun!
Four Leaf – 9, Milesburg -7. That was the final, as Speigle had 3 strikeouts, after one batter got on, to end the game and earn the improbable win.
Four Leaf will now head to Philipsburg on Monday night at 6:00. They must win twice to claim the Norther Tier crown
