The opening night for the Clearfield and Curwensville 11-12 year old Little League All-stars turned out to be a tough one. However, it was a successful one for the Four Leaf Clover stars.
Clearfield was beaten 5-0 by Philipsburg\’s Mark Curtis. Curtis limited Clearfield to two hits – singles by Nolan Barger and Dalton Cole. Curtis also drove in Matt Carpin with what turned out to be the winning hit with a third inning single. Clearfield will now have to wait out Sunday\’s games to see who their next opponent will be in Tuesday\’s elimination game.
Curwensville was a tough luck 3-2 loser to Milesburg. They will now travel to Mountain Top on Sunday for a loser\’s bracket first round game.
Four Leaf Clover knocked off Mountaintop in a 7-1 contest that was much closer than the final score. At the end of 5, the score was knotted at 1. The top of the 6th saw Four Leaf blow open the tight game with 6 runs. The inning was sparked by Ty Thomas\’ key suicide squeeze. Dalton Wisor picked up the victory in relief of starter Kurtis Krise.
Four Leaf will now host Milesburg in the winner\’s bracket semi-finals at the Woodland field.
