OSCEOLA MILLS – With the Fourth of July fast approaching, Osceola Mills Borough Council discussed plans for their upcoming, week-long festival.
John Evans, owner of the Osceola Hotel was in attendance to discuss his establishment’s part in the celebration. Evans asked for an area of road to be closed off between Curtain Street and Mays Alley. He said that it was easier for his establishment and patrons to have the street blocked off. Council did not make a decision on the closure.
Ida Reams, president of council, asked if Evans could serve beer in cans during the week. Reams noted that it would make clean-up easier not having to deal with broken bottles. Evans commented that five of the brands he serves comes in cans, but that others do not. He said that he would be willing to serve those beers available in cans that week.
On the topic of trash and clean-up, Evans noted that there were only two garbage cans in the downtown area of Osceola Mills. Evans said that during the festival the cans fill up quickly. Evans suggested that council contact sanitation companies to see if they would be willing to donate garbage containers for the celebration. Council agreed that the idea was a good one.
Reams stated that people drinking outside during the festival is an issue, and both Reams and Paul Cowher, mayor of Osceola Mills, commented that there will also be extra patrols by police at this year’s festival. The festival runs from June 30 through July 7.
