HOUTZDALE – Security staff at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale foiled an attempted escape on Wednesday morning by inmates housed there according to Clearfield-based state police.
Police reported that five inmates were involved in the plan. According to the report they were going to take over a delivery truck by taking out the driver and using the truck to run through the fence.
Security staff were able to search those involved and found a shank on one inmate and another weapon, labeled as “lock in the sock” on a second inmate. The second weapon was going to be used to smash out the truck window to get at the driver.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
