CLEARFIELD – As the school year ends and summer break begins, Passages Inc. reminds parents to take extra precautions and educate children about any inappropriate contact they may receive from another person.
Those at Passages report that one in four girls and one in six boys will experience sexual violence by the age of 18, and about 85 percent of these children will know their abuser in some way. The abuser can be anyone known to the family or the children including acquaintances, friends, neighbors or even a family member.
Passages Inc. teaches boys and girls that if anyone tries to touch them in an inappropriate way, they need to say “NO” then get away from that person and tell a grown-up.
Passages Inc. is a nonprofit sexual violence agency in Clearfield, Clarion and Jefferson counties. Passages offers free and confidential counseling services and legal and medical advocacy. They also provide approximately 700 prevention and education programs to area schools and throughout the communities.
