Zimmerman Comes Through Again for Chiefs

DUBOIS – For the second time in six days, James Zimmerman got the job done with his bat and his arm with the game on the line, keying Clearfield\’s 7-6 come-from-behind win over DuBois in Jefferson County Legion League action at Showers Field Thursday evening.
His two run-homer capped a three-run sixth inning that made Brandon Evans the winner.
Then, he bailed out Evans in the bottom of the inning and went on to notch his second save, holding the hosts to one hit in 1-2/3 innings while walking one and striking out two.
Last Saturday, Zimmerman hit a three-run double in the eighth and wriggled out of a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the ninth as the Chiefs nudged Bellefonte 9-7 in a non-league game.
Clearfield, 1-1 in the JCL and 3-1 overall, staked Michael Moyer to a 2-0 lead in the first on the first of Zimmerman\’s three hits, a walk, an RBI-single by Drew Hipps, a hit by Jarrin Campman and a bases-loaded walk to David Ryan.
Three unearned runs had DuBois in front 3-2 after two frames. Two errors led to a pair in the first, Sean Zimmerman\’s sacrifice fly and Zac Burley\’s single tying the score. A two-out error gave DuBois the go-ahead run in the second.
The Chiefs reclaimed the lead 4-3 in the fifth, Kyle Kline driving in one run with a single and Evans plating the other with a forceout.
DuBois answered with three runs against Evans, who had relieved Moyer. A double by loser Andrew Welch and two walks loaded the bases, and Jed Zelenky singled for two ribbies. Hits by T.J. Anderson and Dom Varacallo made it 6-4.
The lead changed hands for the fourth time in the sixth. The Chiefs\’ Wil Bacharach delivered a clutch, two-out single for an RBI before James Zimmerman lined his homer over the left field fence.
In the seventh, Zimmerman walked Zelenky but got Anderson to bounce into a forceout and Varacallo to line to first baseman Corey Bookhamer for a game-ending double play.
Clearfield travels to Reynoldsville Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. JCL game.
