House Fire Ruled Arson

KERSEY – A state police fire marshal ruled a fire that destroyed a home in Kersey and act of arson.

According to the report, Gerald McCracken, 27 of Kersey, was arrested on Thursday for arson, insurance fraud, endangering the welfare of children and related charges.

In the original report Ridgway-based state police said that Kersey resident Gerald McCracken and his two children, ages 1 and 3 were at home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. Damage is estimated at $60,000. The residence was also shared by 57-year-old Donald McCracken and 23-year-old Diane McCracken.

Gerald was placed in Elk County Jail after being arraigned by Magisterial District Judge George A. King of Johnsonburg. His bail is set at $50,000. Police are still investigating the fire and and ask anyone with information to contact them at 814-776-6136.
