Lady Tide Another Win by Shutout

CURWENSVILLE—-On paper it looked like a great match up. Curwensville 11-2, Elk County Catholic (ECC) 10-3. That was on paper only. Once they took the field it was all Lady Tide as they made it look fairly easy in beating the Lady Crusaders Tuesday afternoon 9-0. It was the tenth shutout on the year for the Tide, now 12-2, having blanked their last three opponents.

The Tide celebrated senior day on a sun drenched, splendid afternoon honoring the four girls who are in their last season under head coach Allen Leigey. Dani Struble, Ronna Knepp, Dana Johnson and Kristi Newpher. All four seniors did their part to make it a successful event. Knepp smacked a two run second inning homer over the left field fence that gave the Tide a commanding 5-0 edge after two. Newpher went two for three with one hit being a double. Johnson unloaded a first inning triple that scored Holly Lansberry with the games first run. Struble played an outstanding defensive game at shortstop and just missed making a sensational leaping grab in the fifth. Samantha Haney had a great day at the plate with three hits while Tess Bloom and Ashley Demchak had two hits to pace the Lady Tide offense.

After Johnson drove in Lansberry in the first, the Lady Tide catcher was brought home on a bomb by Shannon McDonald going the opposite way to right center with a two run home run of her own. On the day McDonald knocked in three runs. The Tide picked up three in the first and fourth, two in the second and one in the third to tally their 9 runs.

Lansberry once again went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out 13 Lady Crusader hitters. The sophomore ace now has a 12-2 record for Curwensville who travel to Harmony this afternoon for a 4:15 date with the Lady Owls.

After the game coach Leigey said, “ Once again we played great on defense, got outstanding pitching and our hitting was superb. We didn’t strike out once today as we really came out swinging.”
