GRAMPIAN – About 1,000 Penelec customers in the Grampian area experienced a power outage Monday afternoon that lasted approximately 35 minutes.
According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, just after 3 p.m. Monday, protective equipment on the main line between Curwensville and Mahaffey operated, locking a section of line open that included the Hepburnia substation which serves Grampian. Crews were dispatched to the area and identified a neutral conductor had come loose from an insulating pin which caused the fault that tripped the line.
Manual switching was performed at 3:40 p.m. to isolate the problem area and restore power to the substation and all but 2 customers. Crews then repaired the floating neutral wire and restored the line at 6:50 p.m.
