Clfd. SB: Lady Bisons Back on Track After 9-3 Win at St. Marys

ST. MARYS – Brittany Pataky, Nikki Collins and Mandy Rowles drove in two runs apiece as the Clearfield Area High School softball team began what figures to be the busiest week of the season with a 9-3 win over St. Marys Monday afternoon.

The Lady Bisons, who are off today before playing five games in four days, raised their record to 3-2 with a 14-hit attack led by Pataky and Collins with three safeties apiece and Rowles and Alanna Luzier with two apiece.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, coach Bob Dixon\’s club rallied for four runs in the second, all scoring with two outs. Walks to Ashley Lias, Megan Butler and Luzier around a forceout and a flyout gave Pataky a bases-loaded opportunity, and the senior first baseman came through with a single to tie the game. Collins then untied it with a triple off the top of the fence in center field.

St. Marys, now 0-4, got one run back in the bottom of the inning against Toni Brubaker, but the senior righthander then hurled three shutout innings to pick up her second win.

Rowles made it 6-3 with a two-run single in the sixth inning and then set down all six Lady Dutch batters she faced to register a save.

Clearfield tacked on three runs in the seventh, Luzier plating one with a groundout and two runners crossing on wild pitches.

The Lady Bisons will host powerful Bald Eagle Area (7-0) in a makeup game Wednesday. Lady Eagle pitchers Cara Becker (4-0) and Megan Shaw (3-0) have not allowed a run in 45 innings this season.

Clearfield will be home against Johnsonburg Thursday, travel to St. Marys to play Elk County Christian Friday and conclude the hectic week in the four-team Philipsburg-Osceola Tournament Saturday.
