PENNVEST Approves Loan for Bradford Township Water Line

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, announced that a $185,000, PENNVEST loan was approved Tuesday for design and engineering of a water-line extension that would serve 73 residents along Shiloh and Houser roads in Bradford Township.

“The residents have been plagued for years by contaminated wells and unreliable water supplies,” said George, a member of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority – PENNVEST – board. “The money for design and engineering costs marks the first step in efforts to resolve the problems.”

Plans call for a 22,000-foot water-line extension enabling residents to be supplied by the Pennsylvania-American Water Co. More than 58 percent of the wells in the area test positive for bacterial contamination.

George said the loan is for five years at 1 percent interest and the project would provide safe and reliable water supplies and improve fire protection in the area.
