Planning for Change is Theme for Altoona GIN Meeting

ALTOONA – The Geriatric Interest Network of the Blair County Region will conduct its fifth annual Caregivers’ Conference May 4 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona.

This year’s theme is “Planning for Change: Both Financially and Emotionally.” The conference is an effort to assist informal (unpaid) caregivers in the daily task of caring for their loved ones. There is no fee for this event.

The speakers and their topics are:

Melissa Raley, R.N., director, Long Term Living Services, Blair Senior Services Inc., and Patti Defibaugh, supervisor, Long Term Living, Blair County Board of Assistance, “Long Term Living Services: How to Choose & How Is It Paid For?”

Michael Smith, operations specialist, Blair Senior Services Inc., “Understanding Medicare, Part D, PACE & PACENET”

Brenda Williams, case manager, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, “Acquisition and Payment of Durable Medical Equipment”

Rev. TM Talbot-Moses, M. DIV., BCETS, BCCC, SPC, GPI, director of Pastoral Care, Altoona Regional Health System, “Coping With and Accepting Loss, Change and Grief”

Amy Orr Rosensteel, attorney, Evey, Black, Dorezas, Magee, Levine, Rosensteel & Mauk, LLP, “Powers of Attorney and Advance Directives, including 2007 Changes to Pennsylvania’s Advance Directive Law.”

Space is limited and is open to caregivers of older adults on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is due by April 20 and may be made by calling Dana Shade at 889-3123. Should your loved one need assistance on the day of the conference, contact Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries’ Senior Daily Living Center at 946-4693 for information regarding day care services. There is no fee for this service.
