CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield, Elk, Cameron, and Jefferson Central Labor Council is planning a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of their original charter. The celebration will include a banquet and the production of a historical video/DVD and program book highlighting labor’s contributions in our area.
The group is looking for pictures, program books, newsletters, newspaper articles, posters, advertisements, videos, mementos and any other type of historical information including stories that anyone may be willing to share. Jeff Miller, president of the Area labor Council, said, “Our goal is to show labor through the ages, the 50 years going forward to present day. We know that there were parades, rallies, strikes, organizing campaigns and community services performed by organized labor groups that need to be included in the historical record of labor in our communities.”
The area labor council hopes to highlight jobs and unions in every sector: public, private, industrial, and service, etc.
According to Miller, “The original charter was signed by members of unions representing many different types of jobs from clay and stoneworkers, garment workers, to teachers. It is important that the contributions to our communities made by these hard working men and women are remembered. America’s workers are the backbone of this country and we cannot afford to lose this history. It is what allowed us to reach for the middle class dream.”
