DUBOIS – Sandy Township will be working with other municipalities in the area to achieve a comprehensive plan and begin work to create an enterprise zone.
The comprehensive plan will be created with the help of DuBois City, Falls Creek Borough, and Huston and Brady townships. The township learned of its approval for the nearly $300,000 funding package from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Department of Community and Economic Development. $24,000 in matching funds will come from the five municipalities together.
The other effort will begin a study to determine if the area is a good candidate for being classified as an enterprise zone.
The project, which includes DuBois City and Falls Creek Borough, would give business and industry in the zone a high priority on state funds.
The $45,000 in funds from DCED must be matched with $5,000 in local money.
“If we had to do these as individual (municipality) applications, they never would have been approved,” said Richard Castonguay, Sandy Township manager.
