Assault in Philipsburg

PHILIPSBURG – An 18-year-old man was put in jail for assaulting a 42-year-old woman Friday in Philipsburg.

Philipsburg-based state police reported that Shawn Boyer, Williamsport, allegedly grabbed the woman by the hair, forced her to the floor and repeatedly kicked her. Boyer then fled the scene on foot when police arrived and a brief foot chase ensued.

Police report that Boyer resisted arrest when he was taken into custody. Boyer was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Grine in Centre County on simple assault, harassment and related charges.

Boyer is being held in Centre County Jail in lieu of $10,000 straight bail, and a preliminary hearing for Boyer is scheduled at the Centre County Courthouse on Nov. 15.

The woman Boyer allegedly assaulted sustained minor injuries and was treated at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.
