Voter turnout, at least at two Clearfield County polling locations, was fairly brisk Tuesday morning.
Doe Augustine, majority inspector at Pike Township, said that their goal was 300 voters by noon for the location that has 1,489 registered voters.
“It’s been non-stop,” she said, adding that for a mid-term election such as this one, those are good numbers.
In Lawrence Township, the Lawrence/Plymptonville site has a few more voters because Pine Township voters go there as well. Pine accounts for 56 to add to Lawrence’s 1,459. Just after noon, the 300th voter cast his ballot.
Jacky Carns is the judge of elections at the Lawrence site, and she said that given the number of registrants, turnout doesn’t look that good by the numbers, but she said that is the status quo.
“You can never expect a heavy turnout,” she said, adding that the presidential election, slated for 2008, will bring more people to cast their ballots.
The polls close at 8 p.m., and GantDaily will provide updates as the ballots are cast.
