WEST DECATUR – If you are planning to address the Boggs Township Supervisors in the future, there are two things you should know.
First, if you do so in writing, your letter will not be read in the municipality’s correspondence. Second, if you do so verbally, your comments will be limited to five minutes.
The correspondence rule was changed and the speaking rule will be further enforced after a verbal battle between two Boggs Township men prompted a call to the state police after Monday night’s meeting.
The incident started during the meeting when the township supervisors read a letter written by John Deacon.
In Deacon’s correspondence, he spoke out as one of the people in the township who is in support of the Camp Hope Run Landfill proposed by PA Waste LLC.
After the letter was read, a member of the Concerned Citizens Fighting the Boggs Township Dump stepped up to address the supervisors.
Frank Norris said that he disagreed with the statements made in the letter and recanted a previous statement he made to Deacon. In that statement, he had called Deacon a “jerk,” but he said that he wanted to change that statement to “big, fat, stupid jerk.”
The men separated, and the meeting continued, but words were again exchanged after the meeting. The men even stepped outside for a time.
When they returned to the building, the police were called.
The trooper who investigated said the incident would be described as a disturbance, and no criminal charges would be filed. As of Tuesday afternoon, a police report had not been sent to media outlets.
In the past, constables had been present at the Boggs Township meetings, but none were there on Monday.
