HARRISBURG – Clearfield County will receive a more than $23,000 grant to be used for recycling.
State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said $23,621 Recycling Performance Grant is meant as an incentive from the state Department of Environmental Protection to boost recycling.
The grant is based on the 2,482 tons recycled in 2004 and the county’s population.
The grant supplements funds the DEP allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain programs, including a $94,000 grant awarded earlier this year to enhance recycling opportunities in 16 townships and three boroughs in Clearfield County.
George, Democratic chairman of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, was an architect of Act 101 of 1988, which authorizes the Recycling Performance Grants as part of one of the first comprehensive solid waste management and recycling programs in the country.
